Christmas Toy Run 12/09/2019

Postby mogu83 » Sun Dec 02, 2018 5:49 pm

The toy run to the Children's Specialized Hospital in Toms River will be on Sunday December 09. Meet at the Motor Vehicle inspection station in Lakewood, West of the GSP on Rt70.
People start arriving at the NM station around 10AM the Jersey Shore usually provides coffee and donuts before leaving for the short ride to the hospital at 11AM short ride to the hospital to arrive about 11AM. After the ride to the hospital often Shore Riders and others go to lunch at a nearby Charlie Browns.

Most of us have been to this event in the past so no need to say what a rewarding feeling it is to do a little something to help these unfortunate children. If for some reason riding a bike isn't an option don't hesitate to come by car. If the weather is decent the kids really get a kick out of the bikes.

And I seek refuge in aluminum and steel
It takes me out there for just a little while
And the years fall away with every mile

Who do you write the check out to. Seems like they put the money to better use then some toy that may or may not be used.

+1. Wife and I plan to drive... gonna be chilly.

I’ll never forget the time we had a surprise snow storm coming home from the toy run maybe 5 or so years ago. Herb Konrad got stranded on RT. 70, my car even got stuck trying to go up just a tiny hill, corner. It was crazy how it caught us.

Thank you to everyone who came yesterday. Considering the cold day we had a decent showing from New Sweden. IIRC, Vince S., Kevin I., Tom H., Joe Karol, Harry C., Don E., Anna and I. Steve Duarte has some bike issues, wouldnt start so he didn’t make it.

Unfortunately due to infection control there was no visitation inside the units, so the visit was short. We donated from our club, and along with the 2 other clubs.. the donation amount total from all 3 was $1100. A number of us visiting also donated personally rather than give toys. This year we found out that by adding a note in the memo line that the money would be held specifically just for the children/ gifts. A general check to Children’s Specialized Hospital in the past would just be taken for general use, general funds.

Thank you to all club members so that we can donate money to this very worthy cause. And thank you to Shore Riders for organizing this every year.. and the donuts and coffee! :-)

Many afterwards went to Charlie Browns for a group lunch.
