Karen and I went on a scouting trip to Buena Vista Campground this past weekend.
We are going to take a motel room this year. There are two motels available which should have been listed here somewhere. The closest one to the Rally is Rodeway Inn, corner of RT 40 and Rt 54. Rates are $73. for a King bed, $86 for two Queens. NO PETS. Their phone is 856-697-9000.
The second one is Budget Lodge - Buena, their rates are $85. for either a King or two Queens. They take PETS for an Additional $15. per night. Note that sales tax applies to all of the rates listed here.
The Rally site is POT HOLE CITY, watch you travels through there. The road back to the cabins is disgusting as are the cabins.
See all of you on Friday. :yo

Thanks for putting up the hotel information. Not sure how many will use them but good to have the information for those who are :tent8 challenged. :wings

This right here makes me want to say we need a change of venue for the future... And you wonder why other clubs don't attend?

Wayne,

We’ve looked and looked and looked at other sites... easier said then done. Every year it seems someone takes up the gauntlet and comes up empty handed. There’s a pretty specific kind of location we need to hold a rally and few places offer what we want, need.

The biggest problem however is very few will have us, and/or the price is exorbitantly prohibitive. Last location we used was Yogi Bear campground.. they got new owners, or management and let us know they weren’t interested in having us anymore.. that started a winters worth of location hunting. A bunch of us scoured SJ..

Other NJ clubs don’t attend our rally not because of the site, Buena Vista (at least as the main reason); our problem is (as i see it) :

1.) we’re in NJ and riders don’t seem to be interested in our area for riding.. as you know, great twisty roads aren’t our forte.
2.) Rally attendance as a whole is just down, period. This years Square Root Rally had maybe 40 attendees.. (it was pretty shocking) and it’s in a pretty great riding area, sleeping bunks included and Saturday night catered bbq dinner, etc...

We and they at one time approached/ had over 100 attend.. not any more.

I don’t want to sound like a negative downer and one not accepting of help, and any offers you may have.. but it’s been tough.

My 2 cents...

Seems like a bunch of people think that a better location would increase attendance.
It's obvious that what is needed is an Ad Hoc committee charged with finding a site:
That would welcome a motorcycle group
Have first class facilities
Camping and Cabins
Motels in the area.
Allow bonfires/campfires
Be priced the same as Buena Vista Campground
Located in South or South Central New Jersey
Interesting tourist attractions in the area

Personally I think Buena Vista works just fine.

ED: Guess we could throw in motorcycle roads, something like 'Tail of the clam-shell'.
...nowadays I have two good wheels
And I seek refuge in aluminum and steel
It takes me out there for just a little while
And the years fall away with every mile

Looks like we've already found our Unicorn, as frustrating as it may be.

I think we're a great club full of fun characters and once new people meet us, they tend to want to be part of the group. The hard part is setting the hook to bring them in. I'm not crazy about the LCR venue, but it quickly becomes secondary to the group of people we get to be around for the weekend. Maybe that's the marketing hook: spend your weekend in a homeless camp riding, eating and drinking with the greatest bunch of like-minded nutjobs and characters you'll never want to leave.

Harry’s description of the Ad Hoc committee was exactly our “charge” years ago after Yogi Bear dumped us...

And Mikes description of “looks like we’ve found our Unicorn” is beautiful poetry!

It’s not perfect, but Buena fits the bill for our rally. We keep looking but so far nothing has worked and so, Buena Vista it is.

Thanks to all for your input. I have personally tried several times to find a new venue that meets our needs and pricing. It isn't easy. Others have also tried. Not much more I can add to what was already said. We have a dedicated group who do their best with what we have to work with. There are probably better locations & better roads but I an damned sure you can't find a better group of people to spend a weekend with. :bow Not to mention the food is FABULOUS. :wings If you have been there before you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, give it a try. :cheers We would love to see you.

So... Is there a way to sign up and pay for the rally for multiple entrants and multiple shirts at the same time or do we need to go through PayPal hell for each person/item?
