NJSBMW Oktoberfest Weekend 09/20-22/2019

A few of us have been to this and it's a good time. Decent rides up and back are easy to map out or you could slab it if your in a hurry.

Unfortunately - it's not that weekend (and that's Saturday-Monday..) That was last years date.

The actual date always corresponds to Von Stuben day. That's the only weekend that the resort has a bunch of open rooms.. and this year - it's the 20th-22nd.

I think there may be some sort of conflict there. Bummer since as Harry sez - it's a fun time. lots of good German beer - ask Herb K, good Omm-Pah bands, and some interesting stuff happens in the Brauhaus Friday and Saturday nights. Swimming pool is still open. All meals are included, and you sleep and shit indoors! Plus the roads in the area are really good.

Too bad about that conflict - we don't set the date - NJS just has to take what we can get.. and that weekend is the one where they have room for everyone.

OOPS --- Changed it.

BUT - A direct conflict with the Last Chance Rally

Yeah Harry - It is. NJS, unfortunately, doesn't control the NYC Von Stuben Day Parade, and that's what sets the date. Lets see if I can find out any info on VSDP for 2020 and see if we can setup non-conflicting weekends.

OK - found it: The German-American Steuben Parade is held every year on the third Saturday in September ... Saturday, September 19, 2020. So every year, same weekend, 3rd weekend of September. Any chance Last Chance could be a week earlier? Right now we have 3 events on that same weekend - Last Chance, Oktoberfest and Snappin'Turtle. Would be a good thing to try to coordinate these.. I'm sure you'd like to go to all 3..

After 37 years I don't think the "Last Chance" rally should be moved to the middle of September. There was a time when it was the LAST weekend in September and I don't see a problem with going back to that as long as it's okay with the campground and Chairman Pete.

If I’m not mistaken.. we literally do not get one LCR rally attendee from any other BMW club in NJ... along with the other NJ clubs publish calendars with events for every weekend and (in the past) didn’t even list our rally. Our rally (and 450) is imho treated like a pariah, and slighted by the other clubs.. am I wrong?

I know in the past other NJ BMW club members have attended our rally and I guess decided it’s not for them, but that they won’t even try the 450 really makes me shake my head.

Anyway, the idea of changing our rally date kinda rubs me the wrong way, but perhaps at our upcoming rally committee meeting we should discuss it?

I think the only one that comes is Ben Paraan from Jersey Shore. He brought a few of his riding buddies last year.

I'm with Phil /Nancy (Who is trying to be diplomatic)
Doesn't seem worth the trouble asking Pete to change anything, God knows he puts enough effort into the rally without adding anything else.
I wonder if the attendance from other NJ clubs is down is because New Sweden members don't go to their rallys --- OH WAIT !!!!

:tent8

I wouldn't change it.

Lets not get our panties twisted up on our axel. We can discuss changing the date at the rally meeting. As Nancy said we used to have it the last weekend in September. Not sure when or why we changed from that but I am willing to consider a change as long as we all agree. Of course we would have to be sure the campground can accommodate the change before we do anything. Don't want to get into an escalation trade war situation.
